9 - Regenerative Agriculture

Sheep Management Following 5 principles of Building Healthy Soil:

  • Minimize disturbing and compacting our soil mechanically with minimal tractor use, etc.
  • Keep the soil covered and living roots intact by not allowing sheep to overgraze
  • Utilize rotational grazing & integrate our sheep into the landscape
  • Sheep move every 2-4 days to fresh pasture, allowing grass to be mowed down & fertilized routinely throughout the year
  • Encourage biodiversity with local wildlife and naturally occurring plants
  • Certified Organic practices implemented; no synthetic chemicals used on our farm/animals

Healthy Soil Positives:

  • Reduces runoff & better absorption of rainwater with decreased erosion
  • Provides habitat for earthworms, other insects, microbes and more
  • Helps retain nutrients needed for plant growth
  • Healthy soil can help combat climate change by storing carbon dioxide in the soil
