6 - Hides & Yarn

HIDES

This sheep hide has been tanned to preserve it. Now it is ready to be used as a sheepskin throw. Feel the different parts of the hide: the wool has a different texture depending on where it grows on the animal.

YARN

At this station you will find samples of our finished yarn. To make it, roving is fed into the spinning machine, which twists the fiber and winds it onto bobbins. This creates a single-ply yarn. These yarns are three-ply, which means three strands have been twisted together to make the yarn stronger and thicker.

By combining different colors of roving and plying together different variations, we can create heathered and swirl patterns in the finished yarn.
