5 - Roving

These fluffy tubes are called roving.

It looks a bit like soft-serve ice cream as it comes out of the machine. This wool has gone through the picking machine to open it up. Then it went through the carder, which aligned the fibers in the same direction and gathered them into a smooth, even shape.

Now it is ready to be spun into yarn!
