TUMBLER

The Tumbler is designed as a mechanical skirting aide. It tumbles the fiber, allowing dirt, vegetation, shorts, and guard hair to be released from the fibers.

WASHER

The Washer will wash up to 9 pounds of fiber in a single operation. Up to three types and/or colors of fiber can be cleaned at the same time.

PICKER

The Picker/Opener teases out entanglements and opens the fiber to give consistency in further processing. Blending of fiber types and colors can easily be accomplished at this stage giving a complete homogeneous blend. The fiber is thrown into a collection room where conditioning oils are applied.

SEPARATOR

The Fiber Separator removes all types of contamination and opens fiber for further processing.

CARDER

The Carder is the heart of a fiber mill. It separates randomly placed fibers from each other and individually aligns these fibers, presenting them in the form of a continuous web at the output end. This web is consolidated into rovings which are further processed into yarns. Alternatively, the web can be turned into batts, which are used in quilts and felt making. Or, with the Bump Winder attachment, carded roving can be wound into a storage package called a ‘bump.’

DRAW FRAME

The function of the B.M.M. Draw Frame is to take rovings from the Carder and create a roving that is absolutely consistent in size over its entire length. It also further aligns the fibers to parallel, and makes a stronger roving for ease of processing or packaging. You can make the roving bigger or smaller at this stage. The Draw Frame blends multiple rovings into one fiber stream. Blending different colors at this stage can create very unique end products.

SPINNER/PLYER

The Spinners draw in rovings and direct them through a controlled drafting system, outputting an extremely consistent fiber stream. This fiber stream is then twisted into a finished single of yarn and stored on bobbins. Settings on the machine control the yarn size, twist per inch, and production rate. The Plying Bar is added at the top of the machine to ply the finished singles into multi-ply yarns. The Lace Weight machine creates a more consistent higher yield yarn.

SKEIN WINDER

The Skein Winder takes yarn from the bobbins and winds it around a set of spokes, at which point it can be twisted into the familiar yarn skein shape.

CONE WINDER

Yarn passed through the Cone Winder is metered, waxed if desired, and wound on cones. Waxing is usually used for yarns to be further machine processed. The speed at which the cone is built, tension at which the yarn is applied and length of yarn on each cone in yards or meters can be preset. The Cone Winder automatically stops when the desired amount of yarn has been wound or a breakout occurs. For the best results the cone winder should be paired with the steamer which sets the twist in the yarn.

WET FELTER

The Felter creates a 36” x 48” felt pad in minutes. The firmness and thickness are user variable. Uses and designs for felt products are limited only by one’s imagination. Felting is a great way to use up coarser fibers and processing waste.
